Educational Foundation Grant Supports and Intercultural Project
Teacher Betty Constant from Coronation School, a French Second Language (FSL) teacher at Coronation School, developed an online French Recipe book, “Gâteries délicieuses pour l’amour du français”, created by her Grade 3/4 students.
Les élèves de 4e année ont réalisé le projet ‘Création d’un livre de recettes’ grâce à une contribution financière de l’organisme DKG Education Foundation Grant FSL project.
The funds were used to start a recipe sharing program. Each student brought in a dish native to their nationality and shared it with other students in their class. The recipes have been collated into a recipe book which we hope Betty will share with us.
Betty teaches at Coronation School, where Beverly Townsend was previously a principal. Beverly urged Betty to apply for the grant, and it became a huge success at the school. Here are some photos of students with their parents who helped prepare and present the recipes with their children.

Canadian Project - "Foonies": ArtsCan CIRCLE 2018-2020
Each DKG member across Canada is asked to contribute five dollars ($5.00) towards a Canadian Project. In 2018-2020, we will support ArtsCan Circle, a registered charity dedicated to linking creative artists with indigenous youth in northern indigenous communities.
ArtsCan Circle, founded in 2002, was inspired by the work of Mike Stevens, a multi-talented harmonica player who began by travelling to communities in Labrador to share his music with youth. On these visits, Mike has distributed hundreds of harmonicas to help his young listeners discover music for themselves.
ArtsCan Circle now sends teams of indigenous and non-indigenous musicians and artists to engage children and youth in northern indigenous communities in creative art workshops. ArtsCan Circle's mission is to teach new skills, promote self-esteem and creative self-expression. ArtsCan Circle visits the communities of Pikangikum, Fort Albany, Attawapiskat, Natuashish and Gjoa Haven. In the past, ArtsCan Circle has held workshops at Sheshatshiu, Misheegogamang, Wabaseemong, Eabametoong and Kugluktuk.
